Bascara Hospitality today announced its official launch as Indonesia's own, home-grown hospitality management company — built on the track record established at Samsara Ubud, a back-to-back Michelin Key honoree in 2025 and 2026.

Named for the Sanskrit word Bhaskara, meaning "light" or "the sun," Bascara Hospitality was founded to carry forward the operating discipline that took a single pandemic-era property to two consecutive years as a Michelin Key holder — and to extend it across a growing portfolio of distinctive Indonesian properties.

“This launch isn't about a new name — it's about proving that what we built at Samsara Ubud wasn't luck. A Michelin Key two years running came from a team that refused to let a hard year define us. Bascara Hospitality exists to carry that same standard to every property we're trusted with. We still have everything to prove, and that's exactly how we want it.”

— Paulus “Poly” Tuasuun, Chief Executive Officer, Bascara Hospitality

The company positions itself at the luxury end of the market — proof, it says, that a home-grown operator can meet, and exceed, the standard set by international hotel chains, without losing what makes a property distinctly Indonesian. Bascara Hospitality operates on a flexible brand model, managing properties either under their own identity or under the Samsara Collection brand, and offers owners a fee structure benchmarked against major international operators, with no separate brand-royalty layer.

A Proven Portfolio, a Growing Pipeline

Bascara Hospitality currently manages:

  • Samsara Ubud — a 17-pool-villa flagship in Ubud, Bali, established 2017; Michelin Key recognition in 2025 and 2026; TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice 2026 and Top 25 Boutique Hotels in Asia 2024.
  • Samsara Samudra — a 42-metre phinisi liveaboard, 6 cabins, up to 12 guests, cruising Komodo, the Spice Islands and Raja Ampat; Robb Report Indonesia's 2024 Best Luxury Yacht.

Looking ahead, the company's growth pipeline includes a second phinisi liveaboard and a 22-hectare beachfront resort in Sumba.

“I didn't set out to build a management company — I set out to build one property we could be proud of. Bascara Hospitality is what happens when that discipline outgrows a single address. We're not chasing the biggest name in Indonesian hospitality. We're chasing the most trusted one.”

— Bayu Sarwono, Chairman, Bascara Hospitality
